Scubapro Review | Magnifying Diving Masks

Masks are important pieces of equipment in scuba diving. The main role of diving masks is to allow divers to have a clear vision and good view underwater. Normally, a diver’s vision without masks when he is exposed to water is altered because of refraction. The light that enters the eye is refracted because there is no air between the eyes and water. Masks create space between the eyes and water which is filled with air. Hence, a diver has a good view underwater.

Types of Dive Masks
There are many kinds of diving masks. There are silicon diving masks, one-window masks, single-window masks, double-window with no purge valve diving masks, and double-dome type masks. Every mask is manufactured for a more specific function. Some masks are good for low volume diving while the other types are ideal for deep-volume diving. Everything depends on what you need, so choose your mask appropriately.

There are also special types of masks. For example Full Face Masks, camera masks, and many more. When communication to a support team is necessary, full face masks are used. Just like the other type of masks, this kind of mask allows divers to see clearly underwater, and provides the divers protection from a contaminated or polluted water environment. The only difference is that full face masks completely seal the whole face of a diver which is ideal for dives in unsafe water conditions. A good example is the Scubapro Full Face Mask.

Although every dive mask is technically a little different, diving masks are equipped with some main physical features. A diving mask has a tempered glass, skirt, purge valves, retaining strap, and frame.

Glass

A tempered glass is a good composition for the lens, since the lenses need to be 4-6 times more sturdy and strong when scuba diving. This kind of glass does not easily break and if it does break, it does not break into sharp pieces, so it is generally really safe.

Skirt

The skirt is the part that holds out water. Skirts, nowadays, are usually made from silicone. The quality of the skirt is always important as problems with this part of the mask may cause uncomfortable problems with your dive.

Purge Valves

Diving masks with purge valves are good for divers who wear contact lenses. Purge valves are placed beneath the nose allowing you to hold out water through breathing into the mask.

Retaining Strap

The retaining strap holds the mask in place and is attached to the head. It is made of silicone rubber too. Some divers don’t like retaining straps because they believe that they don’t feel comfortable. However, straps made of silicone are known to be quite comfortable.

Frame

The frame is like the skeleton of the lens. It gives shape and structure to the mask. It is commonly made by non-corrosive material such as polycarbonate material.

Masks generally share similar physical parts but have different types that vary according to colors, designs, and materials. To have good knowledge of the real usage of the diving mask will help you assess which one of the masks out there is the one perfect for you.
